Intertwine is Alicia Moffet’s reflection on the events that have shaped her life, moments where emotions run high, free, and, above all, true. Throughout the EP’s 8 songs, Alicia explores the grey areas that make up our live and relationships, coming to the conclusion that life isn’t always black-and-white and that its beauty unfolds in the spectrum between the two. “The concept of ‘good’ leads to the ‘bad’ and the ‘bad’ leads to the ‘good’,” she explains. “In the end, I realize that I need the ‘good’ to get to the ‘bad’ and the ‘bad’ to get to the good. Everything is connected.”
Released following her debut album Billie Ave., Intertwine represents the next milestone in Alicia’s journey as a songwriter and artist. Each song represents a specific, lived experience along this journey. Bouncy opener “Lullaby” is a sultry send-off to narcissists and manipulators, its breakdown swelling into a cathartic chorus of call-outs. On “Hard Feelings,” Alicia sings of still having a “soft spot” for an ex-lover, whereas the seductive “If I Fall” sees her suspicious of a new relationship. The EP’s centerpiece, “Run To You,” has the singer contemplating stepping out of her comfort zone and opening up to a new love interest. “Love and hate are always intertwined,” she sings on the album’s titular track “Your Knife,” a cool meditation on the ups-and-downs of a tumultuous relationship. Electro-ballad “Better Day” sees Alicia contemplating the notion of karma in the wake of a devastating loss, asking, “Was I taking everything for granted? If I gave more of myself, maybe today would be a better day.” Finally, on closer “Airplane” the singer puts her phone on DND mode, taking a break from the pressures felt after the release of her first album. In other words, Intertwine is the culmination of Alicia’s rich and multifaceted inner work, where balance is essential to her personal growth.
