한국인이 가장 사랑하는 뮤지션 중 한명인 마이클 호페의 신곡 Ave Maria
AVE MARIA
My contribution to the “Ave Maria” canon
occurred because my mother had once inquired about the Latin text of “Ave Maria”.
My wife Monica knew the song well, and wrote the words out for her.
The lyrics lay on my piano, and so the composition of my own “Ave Maria” began, now joining the numerous and celebrated versions by Schubert, Bach-Gounod, and many others.
First recorded by Heidi Fielding (soprano) in 2002, “Ave Maria” was initially released as an instrumental by violinist Alyssa Park on my album “Tapestry”(2010).
“Ave Maria” subsequently debuted as a vocal version by Dwain Briggs (baritone) on “Angele Dei” (2010) and later on “Grace” (2013) performed by Celeste Godin (soprano), followed by folk singer Giuditta Scorcelletti on her album “Nightingale” (2015)
Have to say, the version by AnDee Compton (contralto) has long been a favorite, so I am especially pleased to see this recording finally made available.
Strange to think, if my mother had not provided the catalyst, I am not sure I would have written “Ave Maria”, so I have always been grateful for her curiosity, and to Monica for knowing the words!
