A few years back, my parents moved out of state and we said goodbye to my childhood home. Over 18 years of my life in a cul-de-sac house in Diamond Bar; it took time processing the life changes. From moving out, to getting married, to not being a 20 minute or less drive from my family, to not having the safety and comfort of the home grew up in, I was left trying to find my footing in it all. It's hard capturing the significance of a specific place and the influence it had on who I am, but I think “home” has that effect on everyone. However, I've come to realize that “home” is not made by the location, or the walls, or furniture; it’s the people that make it home.

After writing this song, I began to notice the parallels it had to my parents’ immigrant story. They came here from the Philippines in their 20’s and it made me reflect on how hard it must’ve been leaving their home, let alone, their home country. I noticed that the truth that home is made by the people rings even more true for them, who now call the US home. This song is a reflection of Filipino culture in that home can be found in the people and community, no matter where you are.
