- Jazz Vocalist Jumi Lee’s First Solo Single, “The Breath Of A Year” -
After winning the 2011 Jarasum International Jazz Competition and contributing to three full-length albums,
as well as various project albums and singles, jazz vocalist Jumi Lee has released her first solo single.
Her debut single, “The Breath Of A Year,” is an original song that sings of our lives over the course of a year,
telling the story of the beauty of our changing seasons from January to December and the life that blooms within them.
This piece is composed solely as a duet of vocals and contrabass,
with bassist Kyung-jin Lim’s refined and delicate performance providing solid support.
The dynamics and sense of space gradually layered throughout the piece add depth to the interpretation.
With a short, recurring melody reminiscent of traditional Korean music,
Jumi Lee’s warm voice, and her scat singing in the latter part of the song,
she delicately expresses the flow of nature and life,
allowing listeners to feel the passage of time and the breath of life.
The song is released in two versions: the Korean version,
“1년의 숨,” and the English version, “The Breath Of A Year,” with lyrics by July Chai,
who collaborated on Jumi Lee’s first and third albums.

2011년 자라섬 국제재즈콩쿨 우승 이후 3장의 정규 앨범과 다양한 프로젝트 앨범과 싱글 음원에 피처링했던 재즈 보컬리스트 이주미가 첫 개인 싱글을 발표했다.
첫 싱글 '1년의 숨'은 1년간의 우리의 삶을 노래하는 자작곡으로,
1월부터 12월까지 변화하는 우리 계절의 아름다움과 그 안에서 피어나는 삶을 이야기하고 있다.
이 곡은 오로지 콘트라베이스와 보컬의 듀오로 구성된 곡으로 섬세하고 세련된 연주의 베이시스트 임경진이 탄탄한 구성력으로 받쳐주며,
점차 레이어드 되듯 쌓아가는 다이내믹과 공간감이 이 곡의 해석력을 더해준다.
우리의 전통 가락을 닮은 반복되는 짧은 멜로디에 이주미의 따뜻한 목소리와 중후반부의 스캣은 자연과 인생의 흐름을 섬세하게 표현하며,
듣는 이로 하여금 시간적 흐름과 삶의 숨결을 느끼게 한다.
이 곡은 한글 버전 '1년의 숨'과 이주미의 정규 1집과 3집을 함께한 영문 작사가 'July Chai'가 작사한 영어 버전 'The Breath Of A Year', 이 두 버전으로 발매된다.
