Uzuhan (우주한)의 이번 싱글 [Ashes]에는 오늘날의 ‘흑사병’과 같은 역병은 서로 간의 ‘무관심’이라고 표현한 그의 생각과, 무관심 속 추악한 민낯 또한 녹여내고자 했다.
- His Message
For some, the nursery rhyme, “Ring Around the Rosie” evokes fond memories of holding hands and singing loudly. Today, many speculate that its origins trace back to the Black Plague - estimated to have killed 75-200 million people. Uzuhan's 2021 single, “Ashes” references the morbidity of the plague in today’s world.
Today’s plague is indifference. Specifically for the hatred being externalised towards members of AAPI. This song is an honest look at the ugliness of our indifference towards one another. It is belief in Asian and Black American solidarity. It is waking up from the American dream. It is disgust for meritocracy in the church. It is outrage at corporate christianity. This is a rallying cry for us to remember humanity. This is not targeted towards one community, but a plea to all peoples who allow lack of proximity to fuel their ignorance.
