[ Guaguancó is a sub-genre of Cuban rumba, combining percussion, voices, and dance. ]
Guaguansoul is a musically multilingual album. Congas play rhythmic patterns that create a space for conversation. Within Cuban rumba they communicate between players, dancers and listeners to tell the stories of our ancestors with sound and movement. At the center of Guaguansoul is the guaguancó, and it's in between each call of the congas where Kansado creates a sonic collage of headnodic latin lofi beats, syncopated rumba, smooth neo-soul, bouncy funk, and house.
Tracks like No Sé, Ron Con Lofi, and Aguancó set the tone with a steady foundation of guaguancó and rumba clave that transform into rushing waves of off kilter drums, lush keys, and layer after layer of percussion. Collaborators Ferraz and Orestes Gomez join Kansado between the beats and weave stories of everyday life.
Guaguansoul is both an exploration and reflection of Kansado’s multi-hyphenated musical makeup. A Dominican American, guitar playing, merengue listening, hip hop head and latin rhythm mad scientist. This album flips conventions on neo-soul, funk and lofi by injecting the traditional rhythms of afro-cuban music and opening a space for cosmic island beats.
