“Don’t Get Too Cozy” is the second full length project from rising R&B star Phabo and releases June 16th via The Orchard, with Soulection as the marketing partner. After dropping his debut project ‘Soulquarius’ to critical acclaim (Vice, OkayPlayer, COLORS), Phabo headlined his own tour, selling out 150-350 capacity venues around the country (+ UK), building a deeply loyal and connected fan base. Still fully independent, and with another headlining tour planned for the fall, it’s clear Phabo is not attempting to skip any steps along the way, or getting too comfortable with any new found level of success. This album embodies that sentiment, with stark juxtaposition between warm tones & hard hitting sonics that never give the listener an opportunity to get too cozy.
His sound is clearly influenced by the classic R&B he grew up listening to, but always manages to maintain a potent sense of authenticity. On this album he teams up with a slew of incredible producers, from legends like Troy Taylor (Boyz 2 Men, Trey Songs, Babyface etc), to Louie Lastic (Goldlink, Kehlani, Ambré), to Eric Hudson (John Legend, Nas, Kanye West). Although there is no “main” producer for this project, Phabo’s musical sensibilities allow him to guide and control the sound even when it's coming from different creative sources. As for features, Phabo enlisted the help of fellow phenoms Ambré for “NYL”, Arin Ray for “Stay”, Kalan.FrFr for “Your Loss”, and UK singer Shaé Universe for “Out of Touch”.
A seasoned songwriter and musician, he often plays the co-producer role in sessions, and is essentially his own A&R - helping to maintain cohesion and making sure every detail is to taste. Outside of his own releases, he has featured on several collaborations including “4K” by Duckwrth and “Truly Yours (Remix)” alongside Eric Bellinger, Dom Kennedy, and The Game in addition to establishing himself as a driving force in the songwriting scene while penning hits for the likes of Kehlani & Kyle Dion. Never precious with his effort, he has always been a creative powerhouse, using the studio not only as his vehicle to success, but also as his favorite method of processing life and all of its complexity. It’s there where he truly separates himself from other artists who are often unwilling to share the deeper & more personal sides of their journey, giving fans something tangible to hold onto, and weave into the story of their own lives. His catalog is dynamic and diverse, ranging from club bangers, to deep introspective records, to classic love songs, to the everywheres in-between. With recent support from Rolling Stone, UPROXX, BET, Clash Mag, Wonderland, REVOLT, Rated R&B and more, it’s clear Phabo intends to be here for a long time, and will undoubtedly play an important role in the sound of modern R&B.
